Peterborough Communal Night Shelter

We are seeking to re-establish a Communal Night Shelter from December this year. This can only happen though with churches working with us again.

The preferred option is communal with eight beds, similar to the previous winter night shelter that many will remember. This will be run on a rotational model, with churches being able to support with one day a week, or offer a full week as respite to the seven churches doing a weekly rota.

Peterborough City Council have provided us funding to enable us to cover the logistics, volunteer training, transport for pick up and drop off, staff preparation and move-on support for each of the guests.

As before, volunteers would set up at 7pm, guests would arrive around 7.30pm with dinner at 8pm when Night shift volunteers would arrive (some churches kept a meal for night shift volunteers) Breakfast volunteers arrive at 6am with breakfast at 6.30am. Clear up and out of church by 8am). Host churches would need a Lead Co-ordinator and each shift would need a team leader within the volunteer team.

We are grateful to have already had a number of churches sign up, but the more who do the easier the task will be. We are keen to work with churches no matter what level of support they can offer.

We are keen to work with churches no matter what level of support they can offer. Your church might be able to help with just the building, or may have a few keen volunteers or might have someone wanting to cook meals. Either way, we want to hear from you.
