Our Health Outreach Bus was used yesterday by the Our Health Outreach Bus was used yesterday by the North Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Care Partnership to facilitate cervical cancer screenings at New Queen Street surgery in Whittlesey. The bus was also sent to the Soup Kitchen last Thursday where Megan (Senior Project Worker) was joined by Health Navigator Anna and Nurse Jess from @boroughburygp as well as our Street Chaplain Tammy! We’re proud to continue facilitating outreach support to those who are struggling or currently not engaging with health services. @cambspboroics @peterboroughcitycouncil @nhscharitiestogether @actcharity
Pat is one of our wonderful Peer Advocates who rec Pat is one of our wonderful Peer Advocates who recently supported a client ('Emma' - not real name) to receive medical help and attend an appointment. Emma was referred to the Peer Advocacy Team by Addy, Housing Officer at one of @crosskeyshomes's hostels. Prior to this, Emma had a long history of missing GP appointments due to her anxiety and other mental health concerns. She had a particularly important upcoming appointment to attend at @boroughburygp, hence the referral. After receiving the referral, Graham (Peer Advocacy Co-Ordinator) initially met Emma at the hostel to discuss our services, build trust and access any risk concerns. Graham then took Pat to meet Emma. The primary aim was to introduce Emma to the person allocated to escort her to the appointment and give them both an opportunity to form a good working relationship. Once this was established, Pat empowered Emma to decide the time/place to meet for her appointment and the method of transport to reach Boroughbury surgery. Due to her anxiety around other people, Emma chose to travel via taxi. On the day of her 8.30am appointment, they arrived together at the surgery in good time. Throughout their journey and waiting time, Pat was constantly talking with Emma to keep her calm and reassure her of any concerns. There was also constant communication between Graham and Pat to ensure all parties were safe. After the appointment, Pat escorted Emma back to the hostel before checking in with Graham and debriefing one last time. Pat says "It was really good to put into practice the things I have learnt during training with Graham. Everything went to plan and the best thing about it all was how the lady who I supported, went from someone really anxious to someone a lot calmer and stronger. She ended up going into the appointment on her own despite initially being afraid to. When she came out, she was a different person and was so grateful to us for helping and being with her. She felt a lot more confident about having done something like this." This is a great example of the positive impact Peer Advocacy has had and continues to do for those in need. Well done Pat! 😊👏
Staff from @caterpillarinc came in again to volunt Staff from @caterpillarinc came in again to volunteer their time in our Community Garden. They worked hard to paint our potting benches as well as to clean the glazing and restain the woodwork on the greenhouse. It makes a huge difference to creating a welcoming and comfortable space for those we serve. Thank you! 🙏

Thank you to Tina and Martin who brought in a mass Thank you to Tina and Martin who brought in a massive donation of clothing today at the Garden House. The collection came from several fundraising events and activities. Tina said "a big thank you to the residents of Whittlesey for donating and helping us with fundraising. In total, nearly £400 was raised which is incredible!" We really appreciate supporters such as Tina and Martin! 😃💛
We received a donation from a lady who wanted to t We received a donation from a lady who wanted to thank us for supporting her son. He had become homeless but through our help found accommodation and got a bank account set up. The lady had heard about us via her church. Last Sunday, she gave £10 to someone who works at the Garden House as a small thank you. Despite the challenging situation she was in, she was grateful that her son is now supported and in a better place. This situation is an example of the real human stories behind those we support. Homelessness does not just affect the person experiencing it, it also affects those around them. To some, the donation may not sound big but it was what she could afford and to put into context, that amount could feed someone for a week at the Garden House. We’re always grateful for any donation, no matter what the size. Thank you to everyone who supports us with one off donations or regularly gives every month. 💛
A big thank you to Linda and her husband Mike who A big thank you to Linda and her husband Mike who kindly opened their garden to the public last month to raise money for the Garden House. Cream teas were also served during the day. In total, an incredible £905 was raised! 👏🏻 Linda volunteers on Tuesday afternoons and has also used her experience and knowledge to lead on the Gardening Club with guests. Linda says “My husband and I have worked hard on our garden and we’ve had a lot of interest in it. So, we decided to hold an Open Garden Day to raise funds for LPP who I volunteer for. As a result of my volunteering and seeing at first hand how important the Garden House is to people, I’d like the donation to go towards food in particular. A big thank you to everyone who came to visit our garden and donated. I’m also grateful to my brother Mark, daughters Suzanne and Kate, and my grandson Leon who all helped on the day.” The photos were taken by Megan our Senior Project Worker who visited the gardens herself.

Roy is once again taking part in the @greateastern Roy is once again taking part in the @greateasternrun for LPP! 🏃‍♂️🙌 “I’m taking part in the Great Eastern Run again for Light Project Peterborough because it’s a great cause and they've helped me a lot. I came to the Garden House on my first day of experiencing homelessness and they supported me along my journey until I got to a good place in my life again.” Roy secured a job with a LPP partner service, @boroughburygp, and has become a Health Navigator. He works with those who are homeless but have barriers preventing them from accessing health support. “I help people to get an appointment and sometimes even accompany them to the appointment.” Roy adds “I think I'm crazy doing a half marathon but it's a challenge and if it can help raise more money then I’ll do it. Yesterday, we were in Cathedral Square to promote Yesterday, we were in Cathedral Square to promote our work, the Great Eastern Run campaign, and to provide health outreach to those homeless but not already engaging with us or health services. We also gave out bottled water to anyone who was struggling in the heat. There were a lot of good conversations. Thanks to staff from @boroughburygp, @cglpeterborough, @cpft_nhs’s Dual Diagnosis Outreach Team for joining us.
We celebrated Virginnia today who has been a Peer We celebrated Virginnia today who has been a Peer Advocate for nearly two years and has helped so many people during that time. She has now decided to move on from being a Peer Advocate but will continue to volunteer at the Garden House. Thank you Virginnia for your continued support.
