Have you signed up yet to Peterborough's Big Sleep Out 2024? ⛺️Gain an insight into what people sleeping rough experience every night by joining us on Friday 8th March at @theposh football stadium. There's only 100 spaces available so don't miss out!Alternatively, take part virtually and spend the night outside in your garden with family and friends or even ask your workplace or school to host a sleepout.Once registered, don't forget to set up a fundraising page. Last night we took the Health Outreach Bus to two locations. Firstly, to Brotherhood retail park where we met Lee who owns the McDonalds restaurant on the site. He’s keen to support and promote our work which will really help us!Then we moved the bus to outside Brewery Tap where the Peterborough Soup Kitchen are usually located. A GP from @greaterpeterboroughnetwork provided consultations to those sleeping rough and in need of medical support.In this severe weather it was great to see the @peterboroughcitycouncil Rough Sleeper Outreach team helping people to get into emergency accommodation.Also, thank you to @cglpeterborough for engaging with people we met who are having problems with substance misuse.@nhscharitiestogether @actcharity @cambspboroics#HealthOutreach #Peterborough #Charity #HealthInequalities #HealthInclusion

Thank you to Cambridgeshire Volunteer Police Cadets who visited The Garden House yesterday evening for their parade night. This was an opportunity to talk to them about the work we do to help those in need. Thank you to our Services Manager Paddy for leading on this and also thanks to Roy and Igors who were there to share their experience of homelessness. 💛Another reason why the cadets came was so we could say a proper thank you to them for raising £750 from their Sleep Out back in September. Igors has been in the UK for 12 years. However, in

Igors has been in the UK for 12 years. However, in his last job he was treated poorly and felt he was being exploited. When he tried to leave this role, they threatened to hurt him. So Igors reported it to the police as he felt scared and was worried about his safety.As Igors was no longer receiving the money from the job, he was unable to pay for his accommodation and the landlord kicked him out. Igors says “I had never been homeless before.”@peterboroughcitycouncil have been helping him to stay in temporary accommodation. Igors was told about The Garden House by someone he met on the street. He has been coming to us for three months now. “I am really thankful for Teresa, Sam and Stuart [Project Workers]”. As a way to show his gratitude for the support he's been given, Igors often helps with the gardening and the upkeep of the grounds. He will often be found sweeping the leaves, tidying up the vegetable patch or helping wherever he can.As part of the @Homeless Link’s Health Needs Audit, which is being carried out across the county, LPP has been helping to collate surveys to go into the report. Due to the language difficulties though with some of those who we support, Igors offered to help us to translate. He can speak and understand Russian, Latvian and Lithuanian. Igors has been completing surveys for four weeks now with guests at The Garden House as well as Outside Links and at hostels. This has enabled us to complete a large number of surveys which is critical to helping provide health support to those in medical need. He has also helped the Peterborough Soup Kitchen to translate for people who don’t speak or struggle with English.Igors has now been given a room at one of Peterborough’s hostels. He says “I am very happy to have somewhere safe and secure to stay in especially now winter is here.” 🏠💛#CaseStory #Peterborough #Charity #Homelessness #MyStory
