Networks and supporting others

To deliver our projects and fulfil the charity’s mission, we understand how important it is to connect with the wider community. Being a charity based on Christian values means we can establish strong connections with the city’s churches. This helps to bring in volunteers, donations and spread awareness of what we do. However, it is also vital to build healthy relationships with statutory agencies and services including the council, police and healthcare.

This has led us to organising Peterborough’s Annual Civic Prayer Breakfast which brings together Christian and Civic leaders across the city to discuss and share ideas on how we can make Peterborough a better place for all. It’s a great opportunity for people to ask key questions to those in high positions face-to-face and also to understand why certain decisions are made. Concerns or worries within the community are expressed too which may not be that known about wider afield. Finally, prayers are said during the event. There’s always a strong sense of togetherness and it helps to reinforce the networks within our community. We are proud to be able to facilitate such meaningful events such as a Civic Prayer Breakfast and it strengthens our importance within the city.

In 2025, over 90 people attended and we were joined by Senior Civic leaders including Andrew Pakes MP for Peterborough, Sam Carling MP for North West Cambridgeshire, Peterborough City Council Leader Shabina Qayyum, and the Combined Authority Mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow.

We also lead a large network of Christian leaders ‘Peterborough Christians for Social Action’ that spans across the city and its many different denominations. Considering a response to mental health challenges, cost of living crisis and youth provision are some of the issues that are discussed to work together to provide better solutions at a community level.

With Across Peterborough, we showcase good work that the community puts in place to increase shared learning opportunities and access for vulnerable groups. One example of this is a dedicated website and Facebook page.
