Learn more about my role – Fundraising and Marketing
Matt is our Fundraising and Marketing Officer who has shared some insight into his role at Light Project Peterborough.
“My day-to-day role focuses on raising awareness of the charity and securing funds whether that’s through grants, donations, or fundraising campaigns/activities. I manage the LPP website, all of the social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok), create and send out the monthly newsletter, design marketing materials such as any branded posters, leaflets, or publications (including the Annual Impact), and organise LPP’s two annual fundraising campaigns (Great Eastern Run and Sleep Out). Each month, I produce the monthly LPP newsletter which helps to illustrate all the great work that the team has been up to. It is also nice when we receive positive feedback from readers on them. Although I work solo in the Fundraising and Marketing area of the charity, I am supported by our wonderful LPP Ambassadors who offer their expertise, knowledge and feedback to help me raise awareness of LPP across the city and wider area. We meet every two months either face-to-face or via Teams to discuss ideas and news.
I can safely say there is a lot of variety in my job as there’s so many moving parts which is great for someone like me. Having set tasks whether they’re weekly, monthly, or yearly helps to set out a template or strategy and then the ad hoc tasks keep things interesting as I don’t know what I will be asked to create, share, or be involved in. When we have big news to share, I will also be involved in writing press releases which have been picked up by the Peterborough Telegraph, BBC Look East, and ITV Anglia.
A part of my role which I enjoy is putting together case studies with guests who come to the Garden House and have made progress in their homelessness journey. Listening to people’s stories fascinates me and seeing the positive reaction of people online when I post these case studies brings a lot of satisfaction. Homelessness can get a negative connotation so opening up people’s eyes and minds is an important aim of my work. Another positive is seeing people come together at our annual fundraising campaigns. Organising these events takes a lot of time and planning so when the day finally comes, and you see and hear a lot of positive reactions from people, it helps me to continue driving forward in my role.
Although it’s probably the toughest (and at times most stressful) part for me – sourcing grants, submitting applications and compiling reports is a very important element of my job. However, I’m proud to have been involved in obtaining substantial grants for LPP including when we were successful in securing over £740,000 from the National Lottery.
Thank you to everyone who follows us on social media, donates, fundraises, volunteers, and shares their stories and experiences.”
