Teresa’s Blog Post

Hello, my name is Teresa and I am a new Project Worker for Light Project Peterborough. What a truly wonderful charity this is to be a part of.

My journey first started 5 years ago when I became a volunteer for the Peterborough Winter Night Shelter and I haven’t looked back since! Each winter it is so heart warming and a privilege to be part of a team that provides people with the basic human needs such as food and shelter that nobody should be without – or have to fight for to have. From my initial involvement with the Shelter I knew that I wanted to be involved so much more…

Since the Garden House opened in October 2018 I have been a member of the Welcome Team and it has been a pleasure to be there. The Garden House is a magical place which gives people back their sense of self worth and helps them to move forward positively on the next step of their life journey with the support tailored to each person.

To be able to be a small part in these life journeys is both humbling and rewarding. It is a great team effort from all involved – guests, volunteers, staff and partners.

One guest that particularly stays with me came to the House feeling lost and broken and due to a relationship breakdown and other factors had nowhere else to go and was sleeping rough. He was then on the Peterborough Winter Night Shelter and over time with support and guidance he is now working and has accommodation. He often comes back to the house to update us on how he is doing and it is super to see the positive changes in guests.

It is very exciting to be involved with Light Project Peterborough and to now be a member of the staff team for LPP is a true privilege. I’m very excited about the future and pray that 2021 is a super year with many more success stories!
