Raquel is one of our Street Chaplains and a couple Raquel is one of our Street Chaplains and a couple of Fridays ago, she was on outreach in the city centre with Jess and John. She had a couple of important interactions with people and this is her account:

"On Friday 13th February, we went to the burger diner in Cathedral Square. There were two ladies working and Jess gave them some Valentine's chocolates as well as a bookmark with a knitted heart. I asked them if there is anything we can pray for and one of the ladies specifically asked for protection for herself and her family and I asked if she believes in God. She said she does because she prayed for her brother and asked God to protect him whilst he was ill. So, I shared the gospel. I said that God sent his son to this world to show that he is real as well as show what love is. I shared Matthew 11:28 “come to me all you who are wearing heavy burden and I will give you rest.” I said that Jesus was raised from the dead to give us a place in heaven, so we do not have to fear death. I stated that God is there if she wants to call him. I then gave her some other materials including a book on daily strength, a love note about Jesus which has the Salvation Prayer, and a book about women specifically who have shared their stories. The book also has verses in with each story for encouragement.

We moved on and came across someone who is unfortunately experiencing homelessness once again. We got him a coffee and encouraged him to go to the Garden House. He could then get on the housing list again to find accommodation. I told him that I really feel that God has his hand upon his life and that he is worthy and loved despite what is going on with life at the moment. I prayed for him and he was grateful for the prayer and said it was very heartfelt. We told him that he can go to St John’s Church to get warm and eat something and stay there until the Garden House is open again in the afternoon."

Our Chaplains do their best to provide comfort and support to those who need it most. Please do feel encouraged to talk to them when you see any during their weekly patrols.

There was also access to support through Jess and Roy, (Nurse and Health Navigator at @boroughburygp), Pam (@cpft_nhs's Dual Diagnosis Outreach Team) and @peterboroughcitycouncil's Rough Sleeper Outreach Team.

We then went to one of the accommodation settings that is being used to place people in during SWEP where the same support was made available.
