We offer a safe space for any family and friends who are struggling or have had struggles with their loved ones who've experienced or currently experiencing homelessness. We understand how hard this can be, so we offer a monthly support group at the Garden House. Our next meeting is on Monday 6th May at 5:30pm. All are welcome.

We are delighted to announce that the final total raised from Peterborough's Big Sleep Out was..... £32,528! 🤩

The total includes Gift Aid and will be split between ourselves and @theposhfoundation. It was great to have Daniel (one of the people we support at The Garden House) and Dawn Gore (@theposh's CEO) in for the photo to make the announcement. 📸

A big thank you to everyone who took part and to those who donated. Your support will make a difference to so many lives in Peterborough and the local community. 💛

A pool tournament took place during February and M

A pool tournament took place during February and March to raise money for our work. A total of £643 was raised which is amazing! This came from sponsors/donors, players who took part in the tournament as well as from a raffle.

Out of the money raised, some was spent on clothing such as hoodies, tops, socks, men’s underwear, and trainers, all of which have been donated and delivered to The Garden House. The total remaining was still £400! 🤩

A big thank you to Brian for arranging and collecting the donations, to everyone who took part in the tournament and to those who donated. 💛

A special mention as well to Caffé Nero, Bretton Snooker Hall, and Mick at @thefayrespot pub where the tournament final was held.

Tony is originally from Sheffield and at the age o

Tony is originally from Sheffield and at the age of 13 he was the World and European Champion in kickboxing. He turned professional at 16 and then joined the army thinking it would help progress his kickboxing career. However, a week after his basic training, he got sent to Kabul in Afghanistan. Tony was one of the first 2,000 soldiers who landed there.

During his 12-year service, Tony got a bullet in his arm and stood on an IED which blew him up in Afghanistan. He would spend six months in hospital where he became addicted to morphine as he had it ‘on tap’. When Tony left hospital, he would turn to heroin instead as a replacement. After two years though, Tony managed to become clean of drugs and would soon meet a woman and started visiting her on occasions in Peterborough where she lived.

On 1st June 2023, Tony came to #Peterborough without anything apart from the clothes he had on him. The woman he was seeing had a house but was still living with her husband (the relationship was breaking down though), so Tony had nowhere to go and with no local connection, he became #homeless. For six months, Tony was sleeping on the streets which really affected his #MentalHealth.

One day though, he was walking around the Cathedral grounds and came across someone who asked him if he was homeless and then directed him to #TheGardenHouse. Since then, Tony explains “I’ve come here for food every day, been given clothes, and been supported to access benefits as I’ve never claimed them before. They’ve also helped me to get a place in a hostel.”

During his experience at The Garden House, Tony has benefitted from having access to a GP at The Garden House. “I’ve now on antipsychotic medication which has helped me with my split personality disorder, and I’ve also received support from DDOT (Dual Diagnosis Outreach Team) counsellors.” Every week, @fitness_rush_mobile come to The Garden House providing access to gym equipment as well as support with Personal Training qualifications which has also helped Tony both physically and mentally.

Tony believes “If you’re willing to help yourself, then everyone at The Garden House will go above and beyond to support you”. 💛

Last month, Maria joined our team as one of our Senior Project Workers.

"I am really excited to be part of team LPP as the new Senior Project Worker! Originally from Spain, I have been in England for 25 years and before joining LPP, I was working for the NHS.

I have always been very passionate and involved in work and ministry with the rough sleepers, so having seen the advertisement for this role and what Light Project Peterborough stands for and their great and powerful vision, I knew I wanted to be part of it!

In my role, I will be working with and supporting the Project Workers and the incredible work they do, as well as being responsible for the operational oversight of the Garden House project; a big task, but one I am very much looking forward to.

Although I am very much at the beginning of the journey, I have already started to know some of the guest attending the Garden House and I feel very privileged to be able to hear their story, be part of their journey and see how we can support them so they feel empowered to improve their circumstances.

I do have a lot to learn, but the team have been incredibly welcoming and patient with all my questions and I feel very blessed to be part of this fantastic work!"

We now have seven single person units across four

We now have seven single person units across four church sites within our Emergency Night Shelter project. In March, 205 bed nights were provided to those who were in immediate need for somewhere safe and secure.

On Thursday, First Vision Eyecare came to The Gard

On Thursday, First Vision Eyecare came to The Garden House to provide eye tests for the people we support.

36 tests took place with the results leading to 34 people needing support with their eyes. Each of these people will now receive a pair of glasses in the coming weeks. 👓

We are proud to facilitate these health provisions to people in need who would normally have limited or no access to receiving such support. 💛

Thank you to @efl for providing us with tickets to watch the @bristolstmotors Trophy final yesterday! ⚽️

People who have experienced homelessness got the chance to visit Wembley (some for the first time) and have a welcome distraction from their everyday struggles.

There was a great spirit amongst the group and the smiles throughout the day showed just how much they appreciated the experience and enjoyed themselves. 💛

Without our relationship with the @theposhfoundation, none of this would have happened!

In February, 47 people came to The Garden House for the first time seeking support. This is the third highest amount we've recorded in a month period since June 2023. With support from volunteers, supporters and fundraisers, we can provide the help they need to start getting their life back on track. 💙

On Friday night, our Street Chaplains went out into the city centre to talk to and help anyone who needed support or a friendly chat. The chaplains went around the funfair as well as the usual night time locations such as the Brewery Tap and Drapers Arms.

It was a quiet night in general but there was an intoxicated lady who was very uncooperative and the police were called out. Eventually the chaplains persuaded her to get into the police van.

The chaplains had several conversations with people throughout the night and also had a photo with the new Cowgate mural.
